2017 is well underway and is moving incredibly quickly - how is it March already? At the beginning of the year, I decided I would make 2017 a successful one for my writing. It has been over two years since I self-published Heartbound so I think it's about time it had some company on my Amazon page!
I have been writing novels since the age of 16 (again, can time just slow down a little?!) and I have always had something in progress, whether it's an initial plan or a first draft that just needs a little polishing. At the moment, I have four projects all demanding my attention.
Yes, you read that right! Four works-in-progress all at different stages in their development.
One of my projects is a fantasy trilogy called The Blue Eyes Trilogy. This has been in the pipeline for over two years now - I actually started writing the first book, Blue Eyes Behind the Mask, way back in 2014 and completed the first draft in 2015. The series follows the story of an 18-year-old girl who discovers a magical land with all sorts of intriguing and often dangerous creatures. Unfortunately, a group of scientists also discover it, leading to a battle to protect the magical world from being revealed.
Of course, that is just a brief overview of the first book - there is more to come in the rest of the trilogy! Blue Eyes Behind the Mask is currently going through another round of editing and I am very close to completing the second book, though it still needs a title!
Another long-term project that I have gone back to is a sci-fi horror novel, set in the midst of a zombie-style apocalypse. If you are familiar with the film I am Legend, it is along those lines! Just like the Blue Eyes Trilogy, I started writing this particular novel in 2014 and managed to get about halfway through before losing my way with it. Now though, I feel that now is the right time to make it happen.
So as you can see, I have been going back in time to some of my previous works and developing them. However, I have also been working on two recently started projects which are still in their infancy. Both of these are trilogies though they are in slightly different genres.
As a paranormal enthusiast, I am always watching ghost hunting TV shows and looking to learn more about spirits and the techniques used by paranormal investigators. I am also curious about mediums and spirituality, which led to me coming up with the idea for a series of YA novels that would bring both spirituality and scientific paranormal investigations together, with my main character discovering that she has psychic abilities. The first book is still in its early stages but I have a strong feeling that it will continue to progress and develop successfully.
Last but not least, my final project is a series where dragons run the show! My main inspirations for this trilogy, which I have decided to call The Dragon Stones Series, are Christopher Paolini's inheritance Cycle and my interest in gemstones. There is still a long way to go with The Dragon Stones Series - the first book is still being developed and I have also changed my mind constantly about the structure. Nevertheless, I am enjoying the journey.
Let's stop and take a breather! I'm worn out just from thinking about all the works-in-progress I have on the go at the moment! Of course I am joking - having so many different projects is actually very exciting for me.
My goal for 2017 is to have a least one new novel out by the end of the year. This will either be the first book in one of the trilogies or the sci-fi horror that I mentioned earlier. Which one I actually complete still remains to be seen!
So that's my plan for the rest of 2017. it might appear to be a chaotic time with so many manuscripts on the go all at once but it is a good situation for me to be in. Keep watching this space for updates and don't forget to follow me on Twitter and Facebook for more information about my writing journey.
Thanks for reading!
